Case study
THE CHANNEL
A small channel with a very new, very steep curve
Paper Design has 12.1K subscribers and 53 videos. The median of the last 30 uploads is 2.2K.
The recent three are not typical:
Push designs in Paper back to code: 2.2M (1 month old)
Paper and Conductor: design to code with parallel AI agents: 1.3M (2 months old)
How to bring your components from code onto the Paper canvas: 860K (1 month old)
Paper and Capy: use Paper’s canvas within your cloud coding agent: 121K (2 weeks old)
For comparison, “How to sync designs with your codebase using Paper MCP, Claude Code and Cursor” has 19K after 7 months, and “Welcome to Paper”, the intro video, has 17K.
Numbers this far above a 12.1K subscriber base suggest outside distribution (a partner channel, a launch or paid support). We would confirm that with the team before reading it as organic.
WHAT THE DATA SHOWS
What the three have in common
1. They connect Paper to a tool developers already use
Conductor, Capy, Claude Code, Cursor. Each video places Paper inside a workflow the viewer already has open, instead of asking them to adopt a new one.
2. The title is the job to be done
“Push designs back to code”, “bring your components from code onto the canvas”. A designer or an engineer knows the exact problem it solves.
3. Short, direct, demo-first
No “Welcome to” framing. The product starts working in the first seconds, and the title tells you the finish line.
4. Timing
The integrations are new, and so is the audience’s interest in coding agents. Being early with a clear demo gets the search and recommendation traffic.
The weakest videos in the recent set are the intro (“Welcome to Paper”, 17K) and the changelog (“New in Paper: faster performance…”, 5.6K). Both are about Paper. The winners are about the viewer’s workflow.
WHAT WE DO WITH IT
What we do with it
An integration calendar. A list of every coding tool and agent a designer or developer is likely to ask about, with a one-job demo for each.
Standard structure. Title with the tool and the job, the result in the first 15 seconds, the steps, one next step.
Find out what drove the spike. Traffic sources by video tell us whether it was search, suggested or outside promotion, and the plan changes accordingly.
Re-cut for the audience that is not on YouTube. Each demo becomes a short clip for X and LinkedIn.
Questions a SaaS founder would ask
Can a tiny channel get a 2M video? It can, as this data shows. Check where the views came from before you plan around it.
Why do intro and changelog videos underperform? They speak to people who already know you.
What if the integration goes out of date? Treat each demo as a dated asset and refresh it when the product changes.
